Ms. Ann Burke Vice President Economic Development Council Western Massachusetts who will address the Seminar on Wednesday
The expertise of organisations already well established in cultural tourism and the creative economy is to be opened up to Donegal businesses this week.
A seminar entitled ‘Cultural Tourism Product and Creative Economy on the Wild Atlantic Way, has been organised as part of Donegal County Council’s Donegal Diaspora project and will take place at the Colab, Letterkenny Institute of Technology between 8.30am and 5pm on Wednesday 20 May.
It will see guest speakers from home and abroad outline their experiences, skills and knowledge of how to deliver a range of initiatives that will enable creative and cultural stakeholders to grow their business by taking advantage of the Wild Atlantic Way.
As a result of connections made through the Donegal Diaspora project, a number of experts will be coming to Donegal to a weeklong series of events that will give local businesses and organisations an opportunity to explore how best to maximise the potential of their business through the advantages presented by the Wild Atlantic Way.
Guest speakers include three from the United States Ms. Nancy Gardella Executive Director Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce; Ms. Ann Burke Vice President Economic Development Council Western Massachusetts and Ms. Gloria O’Neill President and CEO of Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC) Anchorage Alaska.
Also speaking at the seminar is Joan Crawford of Failte Ireland North West and Moira Ní Ghallachóir, founder of MNG, a bilingual company providing marketing and promotion for local business, festivals and events.
Aideen Doherty, Donegal County Council who is organising this seminar is delighted with the interested already shown by businesses and organisations working in the cultural tourism and creative sector in Donegal saying “we have invited a number of people to come to Donegal to a weeklong series of events that will set the context, investigate the opportunity, explore the potential and seek to deliver a range of initiatives that will enable creative and cultural stakeholders to grow their business by taking advantage of the Wild Atlantic Way”.
She added “participants will hear from Nancy Gardella from Martha's Vineyard Chamber of Commerce which is a well known as one of the worlds most beautiful holiday destinations attracting aristocrats, politicians, musicians, actors, artists and everyday families looking to escape to the robust natural beauty of this special Island.
“Ann Burke from the Economic Development Council Western Massachusetts will share her experiences in taking a business led regional approach to economic development. This has helped cultivate and maintain a healthy economy in Western Massachusetts. While Gloria O’Neill from Cook Inlet Tribal Council Anchorage Alaska will share her unique experiences of working with Alaska Native and American Indian people to achieve their fullest potential.
“Moira Ní Ghallachóir from Donegal and founder of MNG and organiser of Rock agus Roam will share her own experience of how she has developed her own business by taking the opportunities presented by our own natural assets”.
Donegal County Council through the Donegal Diaspora project has been working with these organisations over the past number of years and believes the experience of these regions in this sector will provide learning opportunities for Donegal.
The seminar takes place on Wednesday next, May 20 and participants are encouraged to take advantage of an opportunity to have a one to one meeting with the speakers.
